Safa Al-Hashem

Kuwait; An elected MP in the Parliament of Kuwait, an accomplished businesswoman and investment banker.

Safa Al-Hashem is the only elected female member of Kuwait’s parliament (The National Assembly of Kuwait) for the current legislative term. In addition, she is the only woman in the history of the State of Kuwait to win three consecutive elections.

MP Al-Hashem has been particularly active on legislations dealing with financial, family and economic affairs including pioneering work on small and medium sized enterprises. In addition to her legislative duties in Kuwait, she serves as Vice-President of the Standing Committee on UN Affairs in the Inter Parliamentary Union and is the previous chair of theWomen’s Committee of the Arab Inter Parliamentary Union.

Ms. Al Hashem has been widely recognized as one of the most accomplished business women in the Arab Gulf region. Due to her extensive experience in business and finance and her reputation as an economic spokesperson, she is widely seen as a leader on economic and social issues. Ms. Al Hashem earned a degree in English Literature from Kuwait University and an MBA from the Pennsylvania State University. She also holds a post-graduate diploma from Harvard Business School.
