The Tällberg Foundation announces the winners of the 2022 Tällberg SNF-Eliasson Global Leadership Prize!
The winners were selected from a pool of 2,400 nominations from 132 countries. The winners are leaders from different disciplines and parts of the world, who are courageous to drive change through innovation, universal values, and whose works are global in application and in aspiration.
Special thanks to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) for their generous support.
The 2022 Tällberg-SNF-Eliasson Global Leadership Prize winners (Established Leaders Category):
Yevgenia Albats, Russia, for her passionate commitment to reporting truth in the face of repression and corruption, and for forcefully asserting her—and every Russian’s—personal responsibility to work for a democratic future in their country.
Sam Muller, Netherlands, for his innovative work in creating and implementing new, concrete concepts and ways of working for law practitioners that focus on solving people’s real needs and thereby reinforce their commitment to democracy.
Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, Uganda, for her persistent, innovative leadership in developing new approaches to human/wildlife interaction at a time when the danger of zoonotic diseases is rising worldwide.

Yevgenia Albats @ymalbats, Russia, is an accomplished investigative journalist, political scientist, author, and radio host, who not only has a long track record providing audiences with honest, fact-based information and analysis that often runs contrary to the official version of domestic and international developments, but—at great personal risk— continued to work in Russia until she was forced to leave in August, 2022.

Sam Muller @sammuller107, Netherlands, is an international lawyer and founding director of The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) @userfriendlyjustice that aims to bring fairness, security, and dignity to people’s lives by challenging justice systems to transform and deliver on their promises to prevent or resolve the most pressing justice problems. HiiL works both on theory and practice; e.g., the organization has helped Uganda to improve the quality, equity, and effectiveness of justice at the local level.

Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka @gladyskalemazikusoka, Uganda, is a wildlife veterinarian who responded to the tragic decline of the world’s mountain gorilla population by pioneering a strategy that linked their well-being to the health and welfare of the human communities living in close proximity to animal habitats. The “One Health” approach has contributed to the recovery of the number of gorillas in Uganda, to significant improvements in the lives of communities around the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and to its adoption in other parts of Africa and beyond.

Elia Ana Lovera Gonzalo (Lala), Venezuela, for her passionate and positive fight against the poverty and, especially, the loss of education that risk condemning Venezuelan refugees living in host communities to wasted lives.
Chido Govera, Zimbabwe, for her efforts to provide food security using simplified, sustainable, replicable, and practical approaches to farming mushrooms aiming to empower communities to raise themselves out of poverty.
Elias Mastoras, Greece, for his inventiveness in designing and distributing child-sized audible soccer balls that allow blind children not only to play, but also to participate more fully in their communities.

Chido Govera @goverachido, Zimbabwean farmer, activist, and educator founded the Future of Hope Foundation @TFOHF, which promotes mushroom cultivation as a sustainable source of food and income in impoverished regions of the world. Her work has already reached over 10,000 women and girls in communities across five continents.

Lala Lovera @lalalovera, Colombia, is the founder of Fundación Comparte Por Una Vida @compartecolombia which provides education and nutrition for school-aged children as well as pregnant mothers who have fled Venezuela. Comparte’s model promotes the rights, well-being, and inclusion of the migrant population in host communities in part by recognizing that if child refugees lose access to quality education, they lose their future.

Elias Mastoras @aballforall.eu, Greece, has devoted himself to re-imagining the global game of football so that it could be played and enjoyed by visually impaired kids. In the process, he developed a unique “sound” ball that his program is donating to visually impaired children around the world.
