About the Prize
The Tällberg Foundation explores the issues that are challenging and changing our societies with the goal of stimulating new thinking for a new world.
We believe that a new kind of leadership is badly needed for our societies to prosper: leadership that is innovative, courageous, dynamic, rooted in universal values and global in implication. In that spirit, we established the Tällberg-SNF-Eliasson Global Leadership Prize. The prize name honors the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, whose support makes it possible, and Jan Eliasson, one of the most accomplished global diplomats of our era. Both SNF and Jan share Tällberg’s deep commitment to encouraging positive global change.
The Prize is awarded annually to outstanding leaders from any country and any discipline, leaders who not only have a substantial track record of accomplishment, but also who are likely to continue to make extraordinary contributions to human welfare.
Prize winners may be nominated by anyone, anywhere and are ultimately selected by a secret ballot of a jury composed of accomplished global leaders. The nomination period this year is March 15 – May 15, 2023.
In 2023, through the generous support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), we will award three prizes. Each winner will be celebrated by their peers, receive an unrestricted grant of $50,000, and be invited to join the Tällberg network of global leaders. Indeed, the ongoing engagement with other leaders working for positive change at the global level is an integral element of the Tällberg-SNF-Eliasson Global Leadership Prize.
Leaders who have more potential than track record are critical to our collective futures. Many such leaders are nominated for the Prize, and several have won it. However, we believe that the Tällberg Foundation is well placed to identify emerging leaders because of our global network, philosophy and belief in the permeability of borders and barriers.We have an obligation to nurture such emerging leaders, people who have already accomplished much and whose future promises much, much more.
Our solution, in addition to welcoming emerging leaders in the overall Prize competition, is to invite roughly two dozen emerging leaders from the pool of nominations to participate in the Tällberg Foundation’s Emerging Leaders Mentoring Program.
All leaders who are honored will meet the core criteria of the Prize.
Jury 2023
The Nomination Process
1. Nominations
Anyone, anywhere can make nominations (up to 2 nominations per person). We look forward to receiving nominations for from March 15 – May 15, 2023 for leaders who demonstrate the willingness and capacity to address the complexity of 21st-century challenges in innovative, risk-taking, and ethical ways, and whose work is global in aspiration or implication and is rooted in universal values.
2. Jury
A pre-jury team reviews the nominations and determines if a given nomination meets the broad Prize criteria. Then an international jury reviews the nominations during the summer and selects the people who, in their judgment, best exemplify the types of leaders needed today.
In addition, the jury will select roughly two dozen emerging leaders from the pool of nominations to participate in the Tällberg Foundation’s Emerging Leaders Mentoring Program.
3. Celebrate!
The winners are invited to celebrations and explorations of global leadership in late November/early December where they will join past laureates, jury members and other global leaders.
In October, the pool of emerging leaders will receive an invitation to participate in the Tällberg Foundation’s Emerging Leaders Mentoring Program.

The Tällberg Foundation, launched in 1981, exists to explore the issues that are challenging —and changing— our societies.
